With the warming climate, the waves of heat waves are more intense. This leads to an increasing need for refreshment.
Because of this, the investment in ventilation and air-conditioning are massive, so much so that the energy demand for the cooling of the premises has more than tripled since 1990.
The consequence of all of this ? An intensification of the phenomena of heat wave or d’urban heat island.
Reflective Earth is a american association specialized in the fight against global warming. Its goal the first is toincrease the reflectivity of the Earth in order to slow down climate change.
What is the relationship between reflectivity and warming ? The reflectivity, also known as albedo, has a significant influence on the heat retained by our planet, and thanks to its ability to return to the solar energy back to space.
Work on the albedo, is to work to increase the reflectivity of surfaces to prevent these surfaces absorb excessive heat. And it is precisely on this notion that Reflective Earth and Cool Roof come together…”
🌍 In outdoor : the greater the albedo on earth is important, the less solar radiation will be absorbed by the surface (and re-emitted in the infrared captured by GHGS). It is one of the reasons why the cities of the south are painted white (to reduce the urban heat island (uhi)
🏠 In the interior : the more a building will have a high albedo, the less it will absorb solar radiation. Thus, it will heat less summer, will consume less air conditioning, so it will emit less GHGS.
Because they believe in the capacity of mobilization of each and everyone, the teams of Reflective Earth seek to develop a mobile app to attract more citizens, to clarify their roofs.
Thanks to his experience in the field in Senegal and its partnerships with local actors, Cool Roof France was asked by Reflective Earth in order to accelerate the adoption of the coolroofing by the population in the region of the Greater Dakar. To do this, it is necessary toidentify the expectations and needs of the population in terms of refresh.
In this light, Cool Roof France used two interns from the Ecole Polytechnique de Thiès. Supervised by the project Leader Cool Roof Senegal and the Professor in energy efficiency of the building, Mansour Sow, several interviews with different populations have been made.
Now that this first step is completed, Reflective Earth and Cool Roof France are given a new objective to apply the solution Cool Roof on the roofs of the buildings selected.
