Cool Roof refreshes a shopping centre in zone H3

By applying our cool roofing solution to the roof of a shopping centre located in zone H3, the building reduced its internal heat peaks by 7.3°C and achieved energy savings of up to 21.5 kWh/m²/year.

A classic problem of summer overheating in supermarkets

Like many commercial buildings in hot regions, this shopping centre suffered from severe overheating during the summer months. Despite the use of large-scale air-conditioning systems, temperatures regularly exceeded comfort levels, resulting in :

  • A significant increase in discomfort degree hours (over 1,000 °C.h per month),

  • Persistent over-consumption of energy,

  • Reduced thermal comfort for employees and customers.

A simple solution: apply Cool Roof to the entire roof

The Cool Roof thermo-reflective coating was applied to the entire roof of the site, covering several thousand m², without interrupting activity. The aim of the operation was to :

  • Reduce the surface temperature of the roof,

  • Limit heat transmission to the interior,

  • To relieve cooling systems, particularly during peak periods of sunshine.

Very significant measured results

Indoor temperature: down to -7.3°C at peak times

  • Maximum drop observed: -7.3°C in indoor ambient temperature,

  • Average daytime gain : -3,8 °C,

  • Visible and immediate reduction in daily temperature fluctuations.

Thermal comfort: 13 times fewer degree hours of discomfort

  • In September, the number of uncomfortable degree hours fell from 1,096 °C.h to just 80 °C.h,

  • This gain contributes directly to better quality of service and greater protection for sales staff.

Energy: measured savings of up to 21.5 kWh/m²/year

  • Depending on the thermal resistance of the building, electrical energy savings vary between 9 and 21.5 kWh/m²/year,

  • Cool Roof remains effective even on roofs that are already insulated,

  • An estimated carbon footprint reduction of 29.2 kgCO₂/m² over 20 years.
