Cool Roof at the Louis Blanc school in Paris (75)

Thanks to the application of our cool roofing solution to 100 m² of roofing, the Louis Blanc school in Paris has significantly reduced summer overheating in its classrooms, improving thermal comfort for pupils and teaching staff.

A school exposed to overheating at the height of summer

Located in the 11ᵉ arrondissement of Paris, the Louis Blanc school suffered from sharp rises in temperature in summer, with peaks exceeding 38°C on the top floor. The poorly reflective bituminous membrane roof was absorbing solar radiation, exacerbating the thermal discomfort in the classrooms.

As part of an Energy Performance Contract with Cofely, Cool Roof France was called in. In November 2017, our CoolRoof thermo-reflective coating was applied to one of the two classrooms on the top floor, enabling a direct comparison with the untreated control room. Sensors were installed inside in July 2017 and outside in September 2018 to monitor the effects of the treatment.

Up to 4.8°C lower indoor temperature

-2.5°C on average over the summer period

Measurements taken during the summer of 2018 show an average temperature reduction of 2.5°C in the equipped room, and a maximum reduction of 4.8°C during periods of high heat.

-35% reduction in thermal discomfort in the treated room

Analysis of the hours of discomfort between 8am and 6pm, from 12 July to 6 September 2018, shows a 35% reduction in the percentage of hours when the temperature (or operating temperature) exceeds the critical threshold of 28°C. The cool roof therefore enables the hall to be kept in a more comfortable temperature range during school hours.

A proven solution for school buildings
