Cool Roof at the Linot school in Nantes (44)

Thanks to the application of our cool roofing solution to 434 m² of roofing at the Linot school, the city of Nantes has managed to limit summer overheating and improve thermal comfort for pupils.

A well-insulated roof exposed to overheating in summer

Located in climate zone H2b, the Linot primary schools experiences significant rises in indoor temperature during the summer months. To assess the performance of the thermo-reflective cladding, sensors were installed inside and outside two comparable areas – one treated with Cool Roof, the other a control – between March 2023 and January 2024.

Despite the roof’s good initial insulation, the wide temperature variations highlighted opportunities for improvement in thermal management.

Up to 5°C less inside classrooms

Constant heat gains throughout the measurement period

The readings show an average difference in indoor ambient temperature of 1°C, with a peak observed at 5°C in favour of the treated zone. These differences demonstrate the significant impact of the cladding in limiting the heat accumulated in the classrooms.

Significantly reduced degrees of discomfort

Thanks to the Cool Roof, the Linot school recorded a reduction of 1081°C.h in summer degree hours of discomfort, representing an estimated gain in thermal comfort of 21% over the year as a whole. As a result, the painted areas are now below the summer overheating threshold, without any additional energy consumption.

A sustainable solution for schools, their pupils and teaching staff

This feedback from Cool Roof France in partnership with the City of Nantes confirms that even well-insulated schools can benefit fully from a thermo-reflective roof. In summer, pupils and teachers enjoy a more tolerable indoor environment, with no additional energy costs.
