Thanks to the application of our cool roofing solution on 2,390 m² of tiled concrete roofs, the Wakhinane Nimzatt housing estate in Dakar has reduced its surface temperature by more than 30°C and cut its overall electricity consumption by 12%.
In the residential neighbourhoods of Wakhinane Nimzatt (one of Dakar’s five arrondissement communes), multi-family dwellings are highly exposed to heat peaks in excess of 50°C at roof level, generating extreme thermal discomfort and putting a lot of pressure on fans and air conditioners.
To meet this challenge, Cool Roof France applied its thermo-reflective coating to 2,390 m² of concrete/tile roofs in May 2020. An instrumented analysis was carried out until the end of June, comparing treated and untreated areas.
The maximum surface temperature falls from 54.5°C to 24.1°C, with an average reduction of 15.4°C. The thermo-reflective coating blocks solar radiation and limits conduction to the interior.
The unified energy consumption figures for May to October 2020 show a 12% reduction compared with 2017, despite the same climate. This energy performance is in addition to the comfort gains observed from the very first weeks.
