In Quimper, the E. Leclerc hypermarket is reducing its electricity consumption by 178 MWh per year thanks to cool roofing.
In 2015, the E. Leclerc site in Quimper (Finistère) faced a problem well-known to large retailers: heat spikes on the roof leading to chronic overconsumption of air conditioning. The solution? A cool roofing treatment on a bitumen membrane applied to 6,200 m² of roof, with precise performance monitoring from June 2015 to June 2016.
The analysis, conducted with comparative thermal readings on treated and untreated areas, demonstrated unequivocal results.
Consolidated data for 2015 and 2016 show an average annual saving of 178 MWh, compared to the reference year 2014. This reduction directly reflects the effects of the thermo-reflective coating applied to the entire roof.
The measurements indicate a maximum drop of 28°C in surface temperature, and an average drop of 15.6°C. This thermal performance reduces the load on HVAC equipment and extends the life of existing sealing.
